Q

Class E - Vfr Flights

A
  • IFR PICK-UP – In summary, an IFR pick-up procedure provides a way for pilots to obtain an IFR clearance while already in flight, allowing them to transition from VFR to IFR when needed . This is initiated by the pilot “request IFR pick-up”, and ATC will provide separation from other IFR aircraft only.
  • VFR-ON-TOP – an aircraft operating on an Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) flight plan but flying above a cloud layer in Visual Meteorological Conditions (VMC) at a VFR altitude . VMC must be maintained and pilots resume own responsibility for traffic separation as well as you must fly at a VFR level.
  • VFR CLIMB AND DESCENT - Allows IFR pilots to change levels once VMC and cleared to do so by ATC, reducing IFR delays for higher levels that normally occur. VFR climb or descent must be in VMC and the pilot resumes own responsibility for traffic separation.

Q

What is the Vat and how is it calculated?

A

VAT is based upon 1.3Vso or the stalling speed of 1.23 V stall, both applications
apply to the aircraft in the landing configuration at Max Ldg Wt.
The higher resulting VAT is to be used.

Stall Speed (Vso):
This is the stalling speed of the aircraft in a landing configuration (e.g., with flaps down).
One-g Stall Speed (Vs1g):
This is the stalling speed of the aircraft in a steady, unaccelerated flight with a specific loading.
