HEAD REGION Flashcards
(14 cards)
Neurocranium
Viscerocranium
N: Protects the brain
- Vasculature of the brain, skull cap, cranial floor
V: Facial skeleton
- Anterior part of the cranium (mouth, nose, most of the orbits)
SCALP
- Covers the neurocranium from the superior nuchal lines to the supraorbital margins of the frontal bone
- Skin - Sweat glands and hair follicles
- Connective tissue - Dense subcutaneous layer, highly vascularized
- Aponeurosis - Covers the calvaria, attachment for muscles
- Loose areolar tissue - Sponge-like area that spaces that will distend with fluid if injured
- Pericranium - Dense layer of connective tissue
Cerebrum:
- Separated by
- Lobes
- Longitudinal fissure
- Frontal, parietal (sensory information gets integrated - sensory/auditory), Temporal (hearing, auditory processing, language, speech), occipital
Diencephalon
Epithalamus, thalamus and hypothalamus
Brainstem
Midbrain, pons, medulla oblongata
Cerebellum
Voluntary movement
Occulomotor innervates
Superior, medial, inferior rectus/oblique
Visual tracking or vergence
Trochlear innervates
Superior oblique
Looking down in either direction
Trigeminal innervates
- Parts
Sensory info from the face
- Ophthalamic
- Maxillary
- Mandibular
Abducent nerve innervates
Lateral rectus
Abducts eye
Facial nerve roots
- Parts
- Intermediate: carries taste
- Motor: Controls facial expressions
- Temporal, zygomatic, buccal, mandibular, cervical
Vestibulocochlear branches
Vestibular: Maintains balance in the inner ear
Cochlear: Hearing
Glossopharyngeal
Motor part of the tongue and posterior part
Tonsils and pahrynx: Sensory
Hypoglossal
Innervates the muscles of the tongue
