THE HIP Flashcards
(11 cards)
Weight distribution
- Head and neck of the femur
- Some goes to the pubic bone and the ischium
Body weight forces
Sacrum inferiorly and anteriorly b/w the ilia
Lower end swings posteriorly
Sacroiliac joint
Resists the anterior rotation of the pelvis
Sacrum’s movement is limited to upward movement of the inferior end of the sacrum
Sacrospinous ligament
Sacrum and coccyx to ischial spine
- Converts greater sciatic notch into greater sciatic foramen
- Transmits weight anterior
Sacrotuberous ligament
- Sacrum and coccyx to ischial tuberosity
- Transmits weight down
Purpose of sacrotuberous and spinous
- Limit upward movement of the inferior end of the sacrum
- Ligaments limit how much swing there is (when moving from supine to prone the sacrum swings)
Dorsal and ventral sacroiliac ligaments
Join posterior and superior cavities
Pubic symphysis joint
- Resists flattening of the pelvis
- Prevent bones from crashing into each other by distributing weight anteriorly
Iliofemoral ligament
- Y shape?
- Attaches to the AIIS and acetabular rim and intertrochantric line
- Prevents hyperextension of the hip joint (keeps femur in acetabulum)
- Prevents undue extension at joint to keep posture upright
Pubofemoral ligament
- Pubic portion of the acetabular brim
- Tightening during abduction (to prevent excessive abduction)
- Prevents hyperextension
Ischiofemoral ligament
Ischial rim of the acetabulum
Tightenind during extensio
