helps to build and maintain body tissues (chicken, pork, nuts)

helps regulate metabolisms, absorption, and digestion of other vitamins (D, B2, A, C)
minerals
needed to help form healthy bones and teeth, regulates body processes (calcium, magnesium, iron)
water
transports nutrients, carries away wastes; helps joints, swallowing, and digestion (most important)
difference between a food group and nutrient
a food group is a guide to eating healthy, while nutrients are what’s in the food that’s making you healthy and giving you nutritional value
empty calorie
a food that has no nutritional value (pop, candy, chips, ice cream)
overweight/obesity
abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that presents a risk to health. overweight (BMI 25+), obese (30+ BMI)
