Recruitment
The process of finding suitable job applicants using advertisements, employment agencies and word of mouth.
Internal recruitment & External recruitment
Employee selection
Described as the shifting process. Involves gathering information about each applicant for a position, and then using that information to choose the most appropriate applicant.
A poor selection process means lower productivity:
Training costs, job dissatisfaction, absenteeism rate.

Remuneration
Refers to the financial payment an employee receives in return for working for an employer. These payments can be made in a form of a wage or a salary.
Salary sacrifice (salary packaging)
Where employees sacrifice some of their salary to receive a benefit such as a car. The item is usually purchased out of their pre tax salary.
Benefits of induction
- reduces anxiety and stress associated with starting a new job
- building employees confidence by making them feel part of the organisation and helping establish good working relations
- ensuring great awareness of a majority safety policies and procedures
Training
Teaching staff to perform their job more productively, aims to seek long term change in employees skills knowledge and attitudes in behaviour in order to improve work performance

Development
Is the process of preparing employees to take on more responsibilities in the future though acquiring better knowledge and skills and gaining more experience in a particular era.

Recognition and rewards
Should help to attract, retain and motive employees.
Intrinsic rewards - promotion, recognition and feedback, responsibly.
Extrinsic rewards - wages, insurance, awards, holidays
Performance management
Aims to improve both the organisational and individual employee performance by relating the organisations performance objectives to the employees performance objectives.

Providing feedback from management to employees regarding work performance.

Termination
Of an employment is when an employee leaves a particular workplace, ending the employment relationship.
Retirement
When an employee voluntary leaves the workplace and the workforce.
Resignation
Resignation or ‘quitting’ is a voluntary ending of the employment relationship.
Redundancy
Occurs when the job a person does is no longer necessary, usually due to technological changes, restructuring or a merger or acquisition
Retrenchment
Sometimes called redundancy, but is due to lack of sufficient work to keep the employee fully occupied
