Hypertension Flashcards
to beat mo (14 cards)
What is hypertension
increase in peripheral vascular resistance when the cardiac output is normal
What do you give to black people for high blood pressure and old buggers over 55 (sorry mum )
Calcium channel blockers
What would you give honkys aged under 55
ACE inhibitors or low-cost angiotensin II receptor blockers
What do ace inhibitors give you
dry cough
What is the action of diuretics
Increase Na+ excretion and reduce salt re-absorption from glomerular filtrate
Water loss follows
Reduce plasma volume
Reduce cardiac output
What type of drug is a thiazide
potent diuretics
How potent are loop diuretics in terms of diuretics
very potent
Where are the beta receptors in the heart
SAN and ventricular muscle
If a drug ends in pril what is it
ACE inhibitor
Where is renin made
kidneys
Where is angiotensinogen made
liver
What receptor does angiotensin II work on
AT1 receptors
Where are the alpha 1 receptors found and what are they responsible for?
vascular smooth muscle - responsible for vasoconstriction
Where are the alpha 2 receptors found and what are they responsible for?
presynaptic membrane of sympathetic neurones - responsible for negative feedback (once adrenaline has bound to the alpha 2 receptors it prevents noradrenaline from being released and stimulating the postsynaptic membrane)
