What is the basic pathophysiology of hypovolemic shock?
A
A state of low extracellular / intracellular fluid causing decrease blood flow to organs and tissues

What are some causes of hypovolemic shock?
A
Significant internal or external bleeding - trauma, surgeries, post partum bleeding, haemorrhage
Dehydration - vomiting, diarrhoea, burns, diabetic emergencies, diuretic use, sweating

Signs and symptoms of hypovolemic shock
A
Confusion
Weakened but rapid pulse
Urine retention or anuria
Hypotension
Rapid breathing
Cool and clammy skin

What are some interventions for hypovolemic shock?
A
IV fluids to restore stroke volume
Epinephrine
Blood transfusions
Oxygen therapy
Monitor vital signs
