(IEMR1)Overview of the Endocrine System Flashcards
(5 cards)
What are the three major systems of intercellular communication?(3 points)
nervous system, endocrine system and immune system
What is autocrine communication?
autocrine signaling is a form of cell signaling in which a cell secretes a hormone or chemical messenger (called the autocrine agent) that binds to autocrine receptors on that same cell, leading to changes in the cell.
This type of signaling is a form of cell-cell communication in which a cell produces a signal to induce changes in nearby cells, altering the behavior or differentiation of those cells.
paracrine
These are endogenous chemicals that transmit signals across a synapse from one neuron (brain cell) to another ‘target’ neuron.
neurotransmitters
What is the cell description: are cells that receive neuronal input (neurotransmitters released by nerve cells or neurosecretory cells) and, as a consequence of this input, release message molecules (hormones) to the blood.
