IF7: Chronic inflammation Flashcards
(9 cards)
What are the effects of chronic inflammation?
Low grade pyrexia
Cachexia
Mononuclear cell infiltration & proliferation
Tissue cell proliferation that resemble attempts of repair
Leukocytosis
Acute phase response
Anaemia
What is acute phase response?
The chronic production of C-reactive proteins.
What is the mechanism for anaemia?
What are the main cells involved in chronic inflammation?
NK cells, macrophages, dendritic cells, T cells, B cells, monocytes
What does ADCC stand for?
Antibody-Dependent Cell-mediated Cytotoxicity
What cells are involved in ADCC?
Plasma cells for putting a “tag” on infected cells
NK cells & macrophages for killing infected cells
What is a foreign body reaction?
An inflammatory reaction mediated by macrophages since the stimulus is not antigenic. Pro-inflammatory cytokines are secreted and recruit lymphocytes. Persistent macrophage & lymphocyte activity leads to persistent scarring.
What are granulomas?
A tight collection of mononuclear cells, mostly monocytes.
How are granulomas formed?
