Define lifecycle.
A complete biological cycle of a parasite species, with a succession of developmental stages, across 1 or multiple hosts.
Define definitive host.
The final host in which the sexual stages of the parasite develop to complete a lifecycle.
Define intermediate host.
A host where the parasite further develops or differentiates through part of its lifecycle w/ or w/o asexual reproduction.
Define pre-patent period.
Period between infection of host & earliest time the causative agent can be recovered from host.
Define incubation period.
Period between infection & clinical signs.
Define dioecious.
When male & female reproductive organs are found in different individuals.
Define monoecious.
When male & female reproductive organs develop in the same individual (often at different times).
Define periparturient rise (PPR).
When faecal egg shedding increases around parturition.
