Immunopathology - Week 10 - Immune Response to Parasite Flashcards
(7 cards)
What is introduced into the bloodstream by an infected female mosquito?
Sporozites.
What is the cycle of sporozoites entering the body?
Sporozoites -> to the liver -> proliferate -> merozoites -> released to the circulation -> infect red
blood cells (RBC) -> damage the RBC
Some of the merozoites differentiate into what?
Male and female gametocytes.
In the Immune response involved in clearing malaria, what blocks the invasion of
sporozoites into liver cells?
Antibodies.
In the Immune response involved in clearing malaria, what cells inhibit parasite
development in hepatocytes?
IFN-y and CD8 T.
In the Immune response involved in clearing malaria, what blocks invasion of
merozoites into RBC?
Antibodies.
In the Immune response involved in clearing malaria, what type of cell are capable of directly killing parasitized cells, whether in the RBCs or hepatocytes by cytotoxicity?
Natural Killer (NK) Cells.
