- Chromosomes are copied
- Chromosomes become visible and nuclear membrane breaks down
- Homologous chromosomes pair up and crossing over occurs
- Chromosome pairs align in middle
- Move to opposite ends with independent assortment, random distribution of chromosomes from mother/father
- Cells divides in 2
- Cell divides again, resulting in 4 cells
