16
Q

ability to control the bodys position, either stationary or while moving

17
Q

ability to exert maximum muscular contraction as fast as possible

18
Q

how fast you are able to perform linear movements

19
Q

ability to perform a series of explosive power movements in rapid succession in opposing directions

20
Q

ability to integrate the components of fitness in order to achieve smooth movements

21
Q

bodys ability to react as fast as possible to an imposed stimulus

A

reaction time

22
Q

develop balanced muscles in the body

A

symmetry principle

23
Q

the body needs to recover after a workout

A

stress rest principle

24
Q

if a body is not stressed, training adaptions will decline 1/3 the rate they were gained

A

principle of reversibility

25
the type and degree of adaption to the body depends on the type and amount of exercises performed
specificity principle
26
physical conditioning is improved when the body is placed under greater than normal workload until it adjusts to a new level
overload principle
27
the 4 emotional or physical signs/symptoms of over training
1. increase in depression and nervousness 2. inability to relax 3. drop in academic or job performances 4. desire to quit training altogether
28
FITT principle
Frequency Intensity Time Type
29
4 phases of rehab
RICE - rest, ice, compress, elevate -how did it happen -24-48 hours ROM - moving injured area in anatomical movements - several days to weeks post injury (depends SOI) STRENGTH - re- strengthan injured structures - to prevent from happening again - body weight progressing to more resistance POWER/AGILITY - to further increase strength in injured area - higher risk of injury movements - sport specific movements - ensures readiness to return to play
30
phases 2 of healing
inflammation duration: approx up to 5 days characteristics: area is warm, red, swollen, and tender goal: stabilize and contain area of injury
31
phase 3 of healing
proliferation duration: 3 - 4 weeks characteristics: scar tissue is red and larger than normal because of edema goal: dispose of dead tissue, mobilize fibroblasts and restore circulation
32
phases 4 of healing
remodeling duration: up to 1 year characteristics: water content of the scar tissue is reduced, scar tissue density increases goal: stabilize and re-establish the area
33
phase 1 is often not included, what is it?
hemostasis duration: less than 30 minutes characteristics bleeding subsides due to platelet plug goal: stop the bleeding
34
return to play protocol
1. REST, rest, ice, compress, elevate 2. rehabilitation 3. practice no contact 4. practice with contact 5. game play
35
tight anterior chain and weak posterior chain
- results in hamstring/hip flexor strains, lower back pain -stretch hip flexors, quads, pecs -strengthen core, lower and upper back, and gluts
36
bad posture and weak scapular stabilizers
- results in shoulder impingement, rotator cuff strains -stretch pectorlis major -strengthen upper back -postural exercises
37
weak dorsiflexors and tight plantarflexors
-result in calf strains, shin splints, achilles tendonitis, plantarfasciatis -strengthen tibialis anterior -stretch calves
38
weak VMO and tight IT band
-results in patellofemoral syndrome, patellar tendonitis, patellar instability, IT band syndrome -foam roll IT band -strengthen VMO
