INO summarised Flashcards
(5 cards)
INO
MLF lesion
Medial rectus pasly (6th nerve)
Abducting eye has dissociated gaze evoked nystagmus
small lesion = unaffected
no MLF dammage means adduction defect
convergence intact
Unilateral
6th nucleus affected
saccades and piursuit afftected
adducting nystagmus in unaffected eye
Lower MLF lesion
skew deviation
adduction and convergence affected
Bilateral
Larger lesion
effects both MLF
adduction loss
ataxial and upbeat nystagmus
px assymptomatic
vertical gaze defect
neurological defects
INO Aetiology
MS
Stroke
Bilateral artery occlusion
tumours (rare)
INO signs
EOP / EOT
Increases on attemoted adduction
Imapried slow saccades
assymetrical Bilateral INO
lateral gaze = ataxial nystagmus
