Inter-relationships of nutrience Flashcards
What hinders calcium’s absorption
-Lack of vitamin D - needed to absorb iron
-Phytic acid - combines with calcium and prevents it from being absorbed during digestion
-NSP - this cannot be digested, it will bind with calcium making that also not be able to be digested
-Phosphorous - binds will calcium to make calcium phosphate which gives bones and teeth good density
What hinders irons absorption
-Vitamin C- needed to change iron from its ferric state to a ferrous state, this is a form that is easily absorbed
-NSP - this cannot be absorbed so when it binds with iron it makes that also not be able to be absorbed
-Phytic acid - prevents the absorption of iron as it binds to it
Inter-relationship of vitamin B complex and carbohydrate
Vitamin B complex releases energy from carbohydrates
Inter-relationship of water and NSP
NSP absorbs water in the gut. The bulk and softness of the waste matter is affected by this absorption of water
