Can see people’s body language + the way they act, and can gather more detail and let people expand on answers
Less risk of response bias
What was the aim of Goldstein et al (1988) study?
To see if there was gender differences in number of re-hospitalisations and length of thise stays between males + females with schizophrenia
Also to study pre-morbid factors (factors before illness onset) to see if they had impact on number + length of re-hospitalisation
What types of data did goldstein use to investigate?
Primary and secondary data
What was the sample of the study?
90 individuals aged 18-45 from America, 58 males and 32 females
How was primary data collected?

Hospital gave detailed hsitories on 199 patients + DSM III was used to re-diagnose patients by 2 experts who were blind to hypothesis
Used this to test reliability of DSM
What was the results from the study?
Women had fewer rehospitalisations + shorter stays the]an men did
Suggests that gender differences occur during premorbid period
