Feminism
looks at soc from female POV = division between men & women
women = to some extent exploited by men - women’s interests = ignored or devalued
Postmodernist
stresses soc is changing so rapidly & constantly that it is marked by chaos & uncertainty & social structures are being replaced by a whole range of dif & constantly changing soc relas
soc can no longer be understood by application of gen theories like M / Func = frag into so many different groups, interests & lifestyles
soc = replaced by mass of Indus making indu choices
New Right
stresses indu freedom, self help & self reliance reduction of power and spending of the state
values free market & free competition between private companies, schools & other institutions emph NBance of trad institutions & values
Social Action Theory
emphs creative action ppl can take making them not passive victims of soc forces outside themselves
suggests = NB to understand motives ppl give to their behav & how this is influ by behav & interps of others
research focussed on indu / small groups rather than soc as whole
Functionalist
sees soc as made of parts which work together to maintain soc as an integrated whole
soc seen as fundamentally harmonious & stable bc of agreement on basic values (value consensus) establish through socialisation.
Liberal Feminism
want to ensure that women have equal opportunities w/ men w/in present system through steps such as changes to the law to stop sex discrimination & better childcare measures so women can work full time
Marxism
soc has ruling class - owns land machinery etc needed to make things - employ WC exploiting them by paying them less than the goods they produce are worth
advocates socialism & communism over capitalism - divided by conflict between classes
Marxist Feminism
looks at how women are doubly exploited - as workers & women
Radical Feminism
soc = male dom (patriarchal) men are in control of every aspect of society eg family the workplace & politics
focus = problem of men & how they dominate society

Structural = consensus - func / conflict - M & Fem = macro view look at structures = determinists
Social Action - interactionism / symbolic interactionism - look at soc on micro level - believe in free will
