introduction Flashcards
(15 cards)
refers to a person’s routine of exercise, activity, leisure, and recreation
activity-exercise pattern
The ability to move freely, easily, rhythmically, and purposefully in the environment
Mobility
normal movement and stability are the result of an intact musculoskeletal system, an intact nervous system and intact inner ear structures, responsible for equilibrium
Body movement requires coordinated, muscle activity, and neurologic integration it involves for a basic element:
-body alignment (posture)
-joint mobility
-balance
-coordinated movement
What are the four basic elements in body movement
-body alignment (posture)
-joint mobility
-balance
-coordinated movement
What are the three factors in alignment and posture
-line of gravity
-center of gravity
-Base of support
An imaginary vertical line drawn through the body center of gravity
Line of gravity
The point at which all of the body’s mass is centered
Center of gravity
The foundation on which the body rests
Base of support
the center of gravity in the line of gravity influence standing alignment
These are the functional units of the musculoskeletal system
joints
The bones of the skeleton articulate at the joints and most of the skeletal muscles attached to the two bone at the joints
Joint mobility
are categories, according to the type of joint movement, they produce on contraction
-flexors
-extensors
-internal rotators
muscles
when is inactive, the joints are pulled into a flexed (bent) position. If this tendency is not counteract with exercise and position changes., the muscles permanently shorten, and the joint becomes fixed in the flex position (contracture)
it is the maximum movement that is possible for that joint
range of motion
