Q

Decribe the conclusion of Yamanka & Gurdon’s research

A

data demonstrates that iPS cells can be induced from MEF culture by the
introduction of four transcription factors,
Oct3/4, Sox2, c-Myc, and Klf4

Q

Describe Human embryonic stem cells

A
  • first isolated in the laboratory in the late 90s
  • They were taken from the inner cell mass of blastocysts
  • The usual source is remainders from fertility treatment.
  • They have a high proliferative capacity and can potentially be maintained indefinitely in the correct culture
    environment.
