Key Beliefs: Revelation to the Prophet
Muhammad was the final rusul, ie. prophet to receive Allah’s divine written message in the form of the Qu’ran. Because of the direct recitation of the word of Allah to Muhammad, the Qu’ran is inimitable and infallible.
Key Beliefs: Predestination
Qadr, the 6th Islamic tenet, asserts that Allah omnisciently knows all beings and every moment of their existence. Allah has predestined everyone’s paths, but humans still possess free will to choose our actions.
Key Beliefs: Greater Jihad
Jihad means to exert oneself in a religious sense in service of Allah. Greater Jihad is an individual’s internal spiritual struggle to resist evil, obey haram/halal and submit to Allah’s will.
5 Pillars of Islam
-Shanada (Profession of Faith)
-Salat (Prayer)
-Zakat (Almsgiving)
-Sawm (Fascinating)
-Hajj (Pilgrimage)
Linear or Cyclical
The Islamic worldview is Linear and is characterised by the belief that submission to the will of Allah through ritual acts of worship and obeying Shariah will secure one’s place in Paradise after death.
