Reductionism
It assumes that by examining individual components in isolation, we can gain a comprehensive understanding of the whole.
Holism
It suggests that understanding complex behaviors and experiences requires considering the interactions and relationships among different elements.
Determinism
Is the belief that all events, including human actions and decisions, are predetermined and influenced by external factors such as
genetics, environment, past experiences, and societal influences.
Free will
Is the belief that individuals have the capacity to make choices and decisions independent of external determinants. It suggests that human beings possess a degree of autonomy and can act according to their own intentions, desires, and values.
The idiographic approach
Emphasizes the uniqueness of each individual and aims to understand the specific characteristics, experiences, and behaviors
that make a person distinct.
The nomothetic approach
Seeks to identify general principles, laws, or
theories that can be applied to groups or populations. It aims to uncover commonalities and patterns of behavior that can be generalized across individuals.
