Why use an IVPB?

A

important to administer many medications slowly via a secondary line to ensure the complete delivery of the prescribed dosage of an IVPB.

When the IVPB is connected to a primary line the medication will be fully flushed through the tubing

A

antibiotics such as vancomycin, and gentamicin
antifungal drugs such as micafungin and amphotericin
pain relief medications such as hydromorphone and morphine
drugs for low blood pressure such as dopamine, epinephrine, norepinephrine, and dobutamine
immunoglobulin medications (IVIG)
