Safety things to consider when admin. drug
Must be licensed to administer medication
Must know the correct dosage, action, nursing responsibilities, contraindications and adverse effects
The nurse who prepares the medication must administer it

Examples of routes
Almost Immediate Action:
Oral (po) - swallowed
Sublingual (sl) – under tongue
Buccal – in cheek
Subcutaneous (SC) – injected into a fatty layer of tissue below skin
Intramuscular (IM) – injected into muscle
Intravenous (IV) – injected into vein
Inhalation – inhaled through nose or mouth
15-30 minutes
Vaginal
Rectal
30-60 minutes
Topical
Transdermal patch
