Shinjiro Torii - lead Kotobukiya, developed Shirofunda white label (failure), later successful with Kakubin in 1937. Founder of Suntory.
Key Figures in early Japanese Whisky history - Masataka Taketsuru
Masataka Taketsuru - Studied chemistry in Glasgow, became infatuated with Scotch, worked at Longmorn, Hazelburn, and Bo-Ness in Scotland (documented everything), married Rita Cowan and moved back to Japan. Played pivotal role in starting Yamazaki with Torii before leaving to found Nikka.

Yoichi was built in island of Hokkaido in 1935-36.
