Hombo family history
-Business started in 1872 (cotton processing)
-Sochu in 1909
-expanded into Sake, Mirin, neutral spirits and umeshu (plum liquer) over next 50 years
-Whisky license in 1949
What is Iwai connection to Masataka Taketsuru?
-Kiichiro Iwai worked for Hombo as an advisor
-Later Iwai was working for Settsu Shuzo with Taketsuru working under him
-When Taketsuru got back from Scotland, he presented the famous “Taketsuru Notebook” to Kiichiro Iwai
-Forty years later, when Hombo Shuzo asked Iwai to set up a whisky distillery - Iwai used the notebook
Where did Hombo Shuzo begin whisky production?
-Ran initially out of their Yamanashi winery site
When was Mars-Shinshu acquired and what was the original equipment?
-Shinshu site in Nagano prefecture at the foot of Mt Komagatake was acquried in 1985
-Original stills were from Yamanashi site
-No distillation happened for 19 years
-Started up in 2010
