What is a Pivot joint?
Allows rotation of one bone around another.
An example of pivot joint?
Elbow to turn hand over
What is a Hinge joint?
Allows back and forth motion.
An example of hinge joint?
Knee allows flexion and extension of lower leg.
What is a saddle joint?
Allows movement in most direction.
An example of Saddle joint?
Base of the thumb
What is Ball and socket joint?
Allows the widest ROM.
An example of ball and socket?
At shoulders allows flexion/extension abduction/adduction
What is a Condyloid Joint?
Like Ball and Socket but flatter and oval surface forming shallow joint and great ROM but no rotation.
An example of Condyloid joint?
Wrist
What is a Gliding Joint?
Allows sliding motion of one bone over another.
An example of Gliding Joint?
Ends of collar bones.
