Musco skeletal system. Flashcards
(10 cards)
What does the skeletal system consist of?
Ligaments
Tendons
Cartilage
What is a ligament?
Connective tissue which attaches bone to bone.
What is a Tendon?
Tissue that connects muscle to muscle to bone.
What is Cartilage?
Hyaline at END of bones forming smooth firm surface between 2 articulating bones.
Fibro Cartilage - tough flexible acting a SHOCK ABSORBER and LUBRICANT.
What is synovial fluid?
Slippery fluid between 2 articulating bones reducing friction, adds stability.
What is a joint capsule?
2 layered outer tough fibrous capsule layer surrounds the joint and provides support/strength.
What is synovial membrane?
Inner layer covering internal surfaces which secretes synovial fluid.
What is a bursa?
Fluid filled fibrous sacs containing synovial fluid adding stability.
What is pads of fat?
Wedge/cushion between fibrous capsule and bone or muscle, shock absorbers.
What is menisci?
tough wedge of fibre cartilage improving the fit/stability between articulating bones.
