Joints structure Flashcards
(18 cards)
What is a synovial joint?
A freely moveable joint
What is the function of the tendon?
To connect muscle to bone
What is the function of cartilage?
To stop the bones rubbing together as it helps prevent friction. Is also a shock absorber.
What is bursa?
Small bags of synovial fluid.
What is the function of bursa?
Surrounds the joint to reduce friction from movement of tendons across the surface of the joint.
What is the function of synovial fluid?
To lubricate the joint and reduces friction and wear.
What is the function of synovial membrane?
To produce the synovial fluid
What is the function of the joint capsule?
Hold the bone is place and adds stability
What is the function of the ligament?
Joins bone to bone. Strengthens the joint to proven unnecessary movement or dislocations.
What movements can happen at a hinge joint?
.Dorsiflexion
.Plantar flexion
.Flexion
.Extension
Where in the body are there hinge joints?
.Elbow
.Ankle
.Knee
What is a joint?
Where two or more bones meet
What movements can happen at a ball and socket joint?
All but plantar flexion and dorsiflexion
Where in the body are ball and socket joints?
.Shoulder
.hip
What is the patella?
The knee cap
Where is cartilage found?
At the end of the bone
Where is the bursa found?
Between the tendon and the bone
Where is the joint capsule found?
Surrounding the joint
