Difference between Deported and Removed
For any proceeding before April 1, 1997, there were Deportation proceedings (forced to return to home country or stay indefinitely in custody if it was determined that the alien committed an act that rendered him deportable from this country) and Exclusion proceedings (inadmissible to the country). After April 1, 1997, the aforementioned Deportation and Exclusion proceedings were combined into one unified proceeding known as Removal.
