where do optic (visual) radiation fibers project?
fibers leave the lateral geniculate nucleus of the thalamus and project to the visual cortex
what is the pupillary light reflex?
optic nerve (CN II) carries afferent information: optic nerve -> passes through optic chiasm but stays ipsilateral -> optic tract -> LGN -> superior brachium -> pretectal area
oculomotor nerve (CN III) carry efferent information: edinger-westphal nucleus of CN III -> CN III -> ciliary ganglion -> short ciliary nerve -> pupil
why do dog and cats eye shine in light?
there is non-pigmented portion of the choroid called the tapetum lucidum, this provides a surface that reflects light within the vitreous chamber and back onto the retina to enhance sensitivity as an adaption to functioning in low-light conditions
what is hemianopia/hemianopsia?
loss of half the visual field
