(61 cards)
When was the CAA established
1972
How is the CAA funded
Charging the users
What is the core purpose of the CAA (4)
Achieve high safety standards.
Give consumers value to money and choice.
Mange the environmental impact of aviation.
Ensure aviation security risks are managed
How does the CAA manage air safety
Issue licences to individuals, aerodromes, airlines, drone operators
How does the CAA manage economic regulations
Stipulate price controls and required levels of service of airports and ANSP’s. NATS NERL regulated by CAA as it is a monopoly
What factors are considered by the CAA when ruling on a proposed airspace change
Safety, efficiency and environmental impact including noise
How does the CAA protect consumers
Running the ATOL scheme. Checking companies are financially stable and protect consumers if they fail
How does the CAA monitor the environment
Monitor noise, air quality and consider airspace changes impact on them
What is AIS
Aeronautical information service. Disseminating information relevant to safe and efficient air navigation
What is an AIP
Aeronautical information publication. Contains the lasting information relevant to air navigation in a state. Airspace structure, navaids, runway information.
What is an PIB
Pre-flight route and aerodrome information bulletins
What is an AIC
Aeronautical information circulars. Information affecting flight safety but not significant enough for a NOTAM or affect the AIP. Safety, airspace restrictions, maps and charts
How is an Aeronautical information service (AIS) provided? What are the components
Aeronautical information publication (AIP)
NOTAMs
Pre-Flight route and aerodrome information bulletins (PIB)
Aeronautical information circulars (AICs)
What is an ANO
Air Navigation Order
Who enacts aviation law
Parliament
What does ICAO Annex 15 state
Requires states to have an aeronautical information service (AIS) covering all airspace the state is responsible for
How do you permanently change an aeronautical information publication (AIP)
Amendments (AMDTs)
How do you temporarily change an aeronautical information publication (AIP)
Supplementaries (SUPs). Containing texts, graphics and duration it is effective
What is the AIRAC system
Aeronautical information regulation and control. 28 day single cycle, 56 day double cycle. Detailing information for all those involved in aviation so everyone has the same information ahead of changes
What is a NOTAM
Notice to aviation. Highlighting a hazard. Nav aid failure, danger area active, temporary controlled airspace. Can be issued with little notice
What are the three NOTAM categories
N - New
R - Replace
C - Cancelled
What is an AIS information line
Recorded message to obtain specific NOTAM information
What is a VFR chart update letter and news service
Email notification service with amendments to charts, their stockists and publication dates
How does the UK AIP keep people aware of changes to overseas flight information
Foreign AIP information included in UK AIP
