what are the styles of leadership
Lewin, Tannenbaum and Schmidt, Carlyle and Galton, McGregor X and Y, Blake and Moulton, ADAIRS three circle theory.
what is Lewin’s style of leadership
involves autocratic, democratic, paternalistic and laisse faire
in Lewin’s style of leadership what does autocratic mean
sets the work and expects it to be done, does not involve employees at all, very strict, not allow employee autonomy, believes in top down communication, believes in close supervision, sees money as the sole motivator for employees
In Lewin’s style of leadership what is meant by democratic
Believes in employee autonomy, believes in employee decision making, encourages two way communication, allows employees to use initiative, believes motivation is not simply financial.
In Lewin’s style of management what is meant by laissez faire
the managers are remote from employees, provides little direction lets them figure it out for themselves, employees set there own objectives, it adopts a let them get on with it approach.
in Lewin’s style of leadership what is meant by paternalistic
they want the employees to feel involved with the work force, consults with the employees
what is involved in McGregor’s X and Y style of leadership
x- when employees don’t like work and will therefore decrease productivity. Y are interested and motivated to come to work.
characteristics of X employees in McGregor’s X and Y style of leadership
they dislike work, forced to make an effort, they would rather be directed than accept responsibility, motivated by money, and they have little creativity.
characteristics of Y employees in McGregor’s X and Y style of leadership.
they take interest in work, they are creative, have a drive to reach there target, seek and accept responsibility, have a desire to reach there own potential.
describe Blake and Moulton’s leadership theory
task needs and people needs
task needs- a manager who has a burning desire to get the job done
people needs- this focuses on the needs of the employees, managers try to keep there employees high spirited, which could be at the expense of getting the job done.
