what is the principle of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs
it states that employees are motivated by different things
what is in Maslow’s hierarchy of needs
physiological needs, safety needs, social needs, esteem needs, self actualisation.
what are physiological needs
these are the basic needs that employees have when they first start there job e.g.. pay, however after while it stops and they have other priorities.
what are safety needs
when the employee wants to feel some permanency at the business e.g. job security.
what are social needs
this links to what Elton Mayo found, collaborating with colleagues and being part of the process can motivate employees
what are esteem needs
this is when employees are praised and recognised by managers or people who are higher than them
what is self actualisation
it is the desire to reach your full potential, however it is rarely ever met.

what is meant by Elton Mayo’s human relations motivational theory
states that employees aren’t mainly motivated by money and they are motivated when they are involved in the process and when they work with there colleagues on projects.

the two factors are Motivators and Hygiene factors

expectancy is how likely you are to get it done from a scale of 0-1 and valence is how much value you put onto the job
