Hierarchy of Structural organization of the human body
Chemical –> Cellular –> Tissue –> Organ –> Organ System –> Organism
Name all of the organ systems
Respiratory, Urinary, Nervous, Muscular, Reproductive, Skeletal, Lymphatic, Integumentary, Digestive, Endocrine, Cardiovascular
Plane that divides the body into anterior and posterior parts
Coronal (frontal)
Plane that divides the body into superior and inferior parts
Transverse (horizontal)
Plane that divides the body into left and right parts
Midsagittal (median)
In front of
Anterior
In back of
Posterior
At the back side of the body
Dorsal
At the front side of the body
Ventral
Closer to the head
Superior
Closer to the feet
Inferior
At the rear or tail end
Caudal
At the head end
Cranial
Toward the midline of the body
medial
away from the midline of the body
lateral
on the inside, underneath another structure
deep
on the outside
superficial
closest to point of attachment to trunk
proximal
furthest from point of attachment to trunk
distal
Name the four tissue types of the human body
Epithelial, Connective, Muscle, Nervous
Single layer of cells that all have an apical surface and are all attached to the basement membrane
Simple epithelium
two or more layers of cells, not all cells have an apical surface nor are attached to the basement membrane
stratified epithelium
single layer but not all cells reach the apical surface. cell nuclei give the appearance of multilayered, stratified epithelium
psuedostratified epithelium
single layer of flat cells
simple squamos
