The basic components of the skeletal system
Cartilages, bones, ligaments, and other supportive connective tissues
Functions of bones
support, protection, movement, hemopoiesis, mineral storage
Bone type that is relatively solid and dense. Makes up the external surface of long and flat bones
Compact Bone
Bone type that has an open lattice of narrow plates (trabeculae). Makes up the internal surface of bones
Spongy Bones
The basic structural unit of mature compact bone is called:
