Lecture #1 Flashcards
(17 cards)
Caries:
infectious microbiological disease results in localized dissolution and destruction of calcified tissues
Caries descriptions (types?)
- Sequence
- Location
- Extent
- Rate
- Activity
o Sequence
= primary(initial): no restoration, secondary(recurrent): restored
o Location
= pit/fissure, smooth surface, root(cemental)
o Pit/fissure includes: (r/t location)
occlusal, buccal, lingual, cingulum groove
o Extent
= incipient: enamel only, no cavitation, advanced: DEJ, cavitation
o Rate
= acute(rampant), chronic (note response of distal pulpal horn)
o Activity
= acute(rampant), chronic (note response of distal pulpal horn)
G.V. Black Preparation Classification
Class I-VI
Class I:
pits/fissures of molars/premolars (B,O,L)
Class II:
proximal/occlusal surfaces of molars/premolars (M,D)
Class III:
proximal surfaces of canines/incisors
Class IV:
proximal/incisal surfaces of canines/incisors
Class V:
cervical(gingival) surfaces of any tooth
Class VI:
incisal edges of ant. teeth/cusp tips of pos. teeth
Naming of walls (esp. bucco/linguo-proximal)
floors,
line angles,
point angles,
cavosurface margins
Surface involvement:
1 surface = simple,
2 surfaces = compound,
3 surfaces = complex
