Lecture #7 Flashcards
(12 cards)
Light source - Metamerism:
colors appear to vary w/ different lights
Types of light
▪ Incandescent ▪ Fluorescent ▪ Natural daylight ▪ Halogen ▪ Tungsten/incandescent ▪ Warm fluorescent ▪ Daylight fluorescent
Incandescent:
high conc. yellow waves (not for matching)
Fluorescent:
high conc. blue waves (not for matching or dental office)
Natural daylight:
full spectrum white light (north daylight – standard for matching)
Halogen:
brighter/whiter than incandescent
Tungsten/incandescent:
warm, relaxed (for reception)
Warm fluorescent:
color same as tungsten w/ greenish tone (okay for matching)
Daylight fluorescent:
close to daylight, still slight greenish tone (okay for matching)
Color - Properties:
chroma = strength/saturation, hue = basic shade, value = lightness/darkness
Color - Lab* system:
L = light/dark, a = red/green, b = blue/yellow
Color - Tooth effects:
● Chroma from dentin
● Newly erupted enamel is most opaque; young enamel masks chroma better
● Enamel thicker at incisal edge – masks more
● Young = larger pulp chamber = more red / older = less red
