(14 cards)
What is the net reaction from Glucose?
6 CO2 + 10 NADH + 2 FADH2 + 4 ATP
What is the take away from the Embden-Meyerhof?
Glucose 2 Pyruvate + 2ATP + 2NADH
What is the take away from Pyruvate dehydrogenase?
2 Pyruvate 2 Acetyl-CoA + 2 CO2 + 2 NADH
What is the take away from the TCA Cycle
2 Acetyl-CoA 4 CO2 + 6 NADH + 2 FADH2 + 2 ATP
What is the importance of the ETC?
It oxidizes hydrogen acceptors such as NADH, FADH2 etc so that the cycles can continue and it makes more ATP
How does E0 work in the electron transport system?
2 Acetyl-CoA 4 CO2 + 6 NADH + 2 FADH2 + 2 ATP
Why is the ETC modular?
modularity of ETC permits different electron donors with different reduction potentials to enter at different points with and to couple the chain to different electron acceptors with different reduction potentials
What is the driving force behind phosphorylation?
Proton Motive Force
What is the ATP yield from ETC during aerobic respiration?
30
Dissimilatory nitrate reduction
use of NO3- as terminal electron acceptor reduced to NO2-
Dissimilation=
reduction of NO3- to NH3 for biosynthesis (reduction of anything for biosynthesis)
Denitrification=
reduction of nitrate to nitrogen gas
in soil, causes loss of soil fertility
Why does anaerobic respiration generate fewer ATP/NADH?
Because the alternate electron acceptors have less favorable reduction potentials than to O2.
Deanimation=
removal of amino group from amino acid
