What is feature search?
Searching for a single distinct feature (e.g., red circle); fast and parallel.
What is conjunction search?
Searching for a combination of features (e.g., red + circle); slower and serial.
What is inattentional blindness?
Failure to notice visible stimuli when attention is directed elsewhere.
What is change blindness?
Failure to detect large changes in visual scenes across interruptions.
What is gist perception?
Rapid extraction of a scene’s overall meaning or category (~100ms).
What are saccades?
Rapid eye movements between fixation points.
What are fixations?
Periods where eyes remain still to gather visual detail.
What is scene grammar?
Knowledge of typical object arrangements in environments.
What is VSTM?
Visual short-term memory; holds ~3–4 items with limited duration.
