lecture 21 Flashcards
1
Q
protein conversion process
A
1- broken down to amino acids
2- amino group is then removed
2
Q
deamination
A
The removal of the amino group/ nitrogen (NH2) from an amino acid
3
Q
transamination
A
Sometimes the amino group (nitrogen segment) is used to form a new amino acid
4
Q
amino acids entry into energy pathways
A
1- The remaining amino-acid can enter energy pathways in a variety of places.
2- Some deaminated amino acids can be converted to pyruvate
3- Others are converted to acetyl-CoA
4- While others are converted to CAC substrates, such as oxaloacetate or malate.
5- can be convereted to glucose = gluconeogensis
5
Q
metabolic mill
A
= aerobic metabolism
- slow moderate intesntiy
- protein: deaminated amino acids can form pyrvate, or Acetyl CoA or dirctly enter the CAC - converted to glucose
