(21 cards)
Describe anatomical positon.
A reference position. Standing with feet together, arms at sides, palms forwards, and thumb outwards.
What is the sagittal plane?
Plane which divides the body into sides.
What are some examples of movements in the sagittal plane?
Walking, lunging, or anything that is forward/backward.
What rotational movements take place in the sagittal plane?
Flexion and extension.
What is the frontal plane?
The plane which divides the body into front and back halves.
What are some examples of movement in the frontal plane?
Linear movements of the body sidewards. Lunges or sidesteps.
What rotational movements take place in the frontal plane?
Abduction and Adduction.
What is the transverse plane?
The plane which divides the body into top and bottom halves.
What types of rotational movement occur in the transverse plane?
Internal and external rotation. Also Supination and pronation.
What is flexion?
When the angle between two bones at a joint is reduced.
What is extension?
When the angle between two bones at a joint is increased.
What does it mean when something is superior to something else?
That it is closer towards the head.
What does it mean when something is inferior to something else.
That it is further from the head.
What does posterior mean?
Towards the back of the body.
What does anterior mean?
Towards the front of the body.
What does lateral mean?
Farther from the midline.
What does medial mean?
Closer to the midline.
What does superficial mean?
Near the surface of the body.
What does deep mean?
Away from the surface of the body.
Define distal
Farther from the body
Define proximal
Closer to the body
