lecture 5 Flashcards
what are the 3 types of T cells?
1) cytotoxic
2) helper
3) memory
what is the only antigen that T cells will respond to?
= peptide antigens
what are the receptors called in T cell?
= TCR
= T cell antigen receptors
what do the peptide antigens need to be presented on in order to be recognised by T cells?
= MHC molecules / HLA
what is MHC?
major histocompatibility molecules
human leukocyte antigens
what are the 2 types of MHC?
Class I MHC
Class II MHC
what do class I MHC molecules present?
= CD8+ T cells
cytotoxic T cells
what do class II MHC molecules present?
= CD4+ T cells
what are class I MHC molecules presented on?
= all nucleated cells
what are class II MHC molecules presented on?
= professional antigen presenting cells (APcs)
what do dendritic cells act as?
= bridge between innate and adaptive immune system
what do TH0 antibodies do?
= secretes IL-2, that causes T cell proliferation and activates CD8+ T cells
what do TH1 antibodies do?
= secretes INFgamma, which enhances macrophage killing of internal pathogens by stimulating ROS/RNS
