Lecture18 Flashcards

1
Q

What is a voltage gated ionchannel?

A

Transmembrane protein that play important roles in the electrical signalling of cells. Regulated by the membrane potential of a cell. Open channels allow the movement of ions along an electrochemical gradient across cellular membranes.

Q

At resting membrane potential what is the ability of ions to leave/enter the cell.

A

Sodium is less able to enter the cell and potassium is much more able to leave.therefore the exit of potassium dominates, leaving behind negativity
