29
exclamation mark pictogram
warn about the presence of health hazards Acute toxicity - Oral, Dermal, Inhalation Skin irritation
30
biohazardous infectious materials pictogram
warn about the presence of an infectious or biological hazard Biohazardous Infectious Materials
31
SDS must contain
Identification, Hazard identification, Composition/Information on ingredients, First-aid measures, Fire-fighting measures, Accidental release measures, Handling and storage, Exposure controls/ Personal protection, Physical and chemical properties, Stability and reactivity, Toxicological information, Ecological information*, Disposal considerations, Transport information*, Regulatory information Revision date
32
2 labels from WHMIS
Supplier and Work Place label
33
Who is responsible for labelling
Suppliers are responsible for labelling the hazardous products that they provide to customers Employers are responsible for making sure that hazardous products that come into the workplace are labelled Employers must be prepared to apply a workplace label when appropriate
34
6 things that have to be on a supplier label
Product identifier , Initial supplier identifier , Pictogram(s), Signal word - "Danger" or "Warning", Hazard statement(s) , Precautionary statement(s) and in some cases Supplemental label information
35
What must workplace labels have ?
Product name , Safe handling precautions may include pictograms or other supplier label information, A reference to the SDS
36
Why must a workplace make a label
hazardous materials are produced in the workplace, the suppliers label is missing or illegible when hazardous materials are poured from one container to the next
37
When is a lable not needed?
When a hazardous product is: poured into a container and it is going to be used immediately, or "under the control of the person who decanted it".
38
Lab labels must have
``` Product name Safe handling precautions Reference to SDS when available Date of preparation Date of Expiration(optional) Storage conditions.(optional) Employee initial (optional- depends on work place protocol) May have pictograms or personal protective equipment (PPE) information (optional -depends on work place protocol) ```
39
The specific requirements for packing any clinical sample under TDG include
Identifying and classifying the material- label specimen proper packaging –water tight primary , secondary leak proof containers with absorbent material between primary and secondary,TERTIARY OUTER CONTAINER WITH BIOHAZARD SYMBOL. shipping documents –requisition container labels and marks operator training & certification Emergency Response Plan Accidental Release Reporting
40
How many layers of packing does infectious material need?
3 layers Watertight 1 layer - glass, metal or plastic Watertight 2nd layer Outer rigid layer
