- temperature
- rainfall
- the rocks and minerals that make up the bedrock, which is the basis of soil development

what is rainforest soil like?
A
- not very deep
- not full of nutirents (rain - leaching)
- high temperature cause weathering
- high rainfall leaches

what is desert soil like?
A
- no good for growing crops
- sometimes lots of minerals for industrial materials
- high temperature rapidly break down any organic material
- lack of rainfall limits plant growth

what is tundra soil like?
A
- a layer of permafrost (frozen soil)
- not a lot can grow here
- covered by ice and snow for most of the year
- trees are absent

A
- lots of nutrients in the top soil
- around one metre deep
- ideal soil for agriculture
