Q
how does commercialisation of agriculture impact yields?
A
- people have started specialising in making one particular type of food (monoculture)
- this led to farmers growing crops specifically to sell them
- these are called cash crops
- people who do this rely entirely on the income they get from selling their crops, meaning they have done everything they can to increase their yields

Q
how does global trade affect agricultural yields?
A
- if people wanted to buy food produced by farmers in other countries, the government would put a tax (called a tariff)
- free trade has increased the amount of global trade and as a result, people want to increase their yields
