Lesson 6B (Part 2) Flashcards
What makes up the urogenital triangle? (3)
- Bulbospongiosus
- Ischiocavernosus
- Transversus perineal
- transverse perinei
What makes up the anal triangle?
Sphincter ani muscle
What does the pelvic diaphragm muscles line?
The pelvic floor
What does the pelvic diaphragm do?
Provides support for the pelvic organs
- holds the uterus
- rotates the bladder up
Where does the levator ani muscle lie?
Its a hammock like portion of the pelvic floor
What does the levator ani muscles help with?
In contraction of the vagina and the rectum
What are the true pelvis muscles?
The pelvic floor muscles
- pelvic diaphragm muscles
- levator ani muscles
What are the deepest muscles considered as in the pelvis?
The most superficial
What are the paired pelvic diaphragm muscles? (3)
- Pubococcygeus muscles
- Iliococcygeus muscles
- Coccygeus muscles
Where is the pubococcygeus muscles located?
Most medial and anterior muscles of the pelvic diaphragm
Where does the pubococcygeus muscles extend?
From the pubic bone to the coccyx
Where does the iliococcygeus muscles lie?
Posterolateral to the pubococcygeus
Where does the iliococcygeus muscles extend?
From the lateral pubic bone and the ischial spine to coccyx
Where are the coccygeus muscles located?
Most posterior muscle pair of the pelvic diaphragm
Where does the diaphragm extend?
From the ischial spine to the coccyx
What is another term for deep transverse perineal?
Transverse perinei
Where is deep transverse perineal located?
Originates on the ischial tuberosities and passes medially to insert on the central perineal tendon
Which way does the transverse perinei muscle run?
Horizontally
What kind of movement does the external urethral sphincter do?
Voluntary
What kind of movement does the internal urethral sphincter do?
Involuntary
What does the external urethral sphincter do?
It stops urine from exiting the bladder
What portion does the urogenital diaphragm lay?
Anteriorly
What shape is the perineal muscles?
Diamond
- between the pubic arch (anteriorly), the coccyx (posteriorly) and the ischia tuberosities laterally
How is the diamond divided into the perineal muscles? (2)
- Anterior urogenital region
2. Posterior anal region
