“could” or “manage to”?
Example: I didn’t ……………….. convince him to come with us.

Explication: “Managed to” signifie en français “réussir à”. C’est utilisé très souvent en anglais pour dire qu’on a pu (ou pas) faire quelque chose une fois, qu’on a réussi cette fois-là. (e.g.: It was tough but I managed to finish my report on Friday.) = J’ai pu finir. J’ai réussi à finir.
“Could” est utilisé au passé à la forme affirmative et est utilisé comme habileté en général. Exemple: When I was in Germany, I could speak German fluently.
