What is excretion?

A

The removal of metabolic waste (chemical reactions in cells) from the system. (E.G. H2O, CO2 and urea). Also any excess substances.

Q

What is aerobic resperation?

A

Oxygen is needed in order co create energy.

Formulae:

Glucose + oxygen == carbon dioxide + water + energy

C6H12O6 + 6O2 ++

Q

What is anerboic resperation?

A
  • Does not require oxygen
  • Used during high intesity exercise where the body cannot supply enough oxygen to the muscles
  • Formulae:

Glucose == lactic acid + energy

C6H12O6 == 2C3H6O3 + 2ATP

  • Lactic acid is a bi-product which is toxic to the muscles. It restricts movement and can cause cramps.
