microscopes Flashcards
(14 cards)
What is the eye piece?
Where you can look to see the specimen, also has a magnification of x10.
What is the objective lens?
Magnifies the specimen, there are 3 objective lenses (x4, x10, x40).
What is the nose piece?
The rotator used to change the objective lens.
What is the stage?
Where the microscope slide is placed?
What is the slide?
The piece of glass you place over your specimen.
What are the stage clips?
Two clips that are used to hold the slide in place.
What is the rough focus wheel?
Moves the stage 9n order to focus on the specimen.
What is the fine focus wheel?
Moves the stage millimetres in order to fine tune the focus of the microscope.
What is the iris diaphragm?
Controls how much light passes through the specimen.
What is the light?
Allows the specimen to be see, older models use a mirror.
What is the formulae triangle for Image size, maginifcation and actual size?

How do you convert centimeter to millimeter and millimeter to centimeter?
- cm to mm = x10
- mm to cm = /10
How do you convert milimeters to micrometers and micrometers to millimeters
- Millimeter to µm = x1000
- µm to millimeter = /1000
How do you convert micrometers to nanometers and nano meters to micrometers?
- µm to nanometer = x1000
- nanometer to µm = /1000
